CRESTS Knowledge: As well as it being the canon crest for this character, Kaoru has a vast amount of knowledge – mostly due to her being a bookworm, but also because she knows when and how to ask the right questions. Kaoru makes an effort to constantly learn things, and is quite perceptive of the world around her.

SO THEN. TELL US WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE?

The first thing you would notice about Kaoru is her height. More specifically, her lack of it. Kaoru is the resident shorty, inheriting it from her father. If it wasn’t for her curves (she’s a bit top-heavy and has a bum, if you haven’t noticed), she’d surely be mistaken as someone much younger .She has succeeded in growing her hair very long, which she is proud of. Unfortunately, long hair gets very annoying, so Kaoru always ties it up in a ponytail, unless she’s sleeping. Her brown eyes matches her hair colour and, to her dismay, also give off an air of childishness due to how big they are for someone her age.
Kaoru shows minimal interest in fashion and looking good. She usually wears the first thing she finds in the morning, although this is also because she’s usually late and is too hurried to actually look at what she’s wearing, although she dreams of the day when she can wear pyjamas all day long. On the rare occasion when she does show a hint of interest in what she wears, Kaoru is a bit on the girly side and would choose a skirt or dress over jeans any day. Every so often you’ll see her wearing jewellery, but it rarely happens as the fact that she has pretty jewellery often slips Kaoru’s mind. She also likes to wear an apron, in order to protect her clothes. I mean, obviously things could easily get a bit busy in the Digital World.
On a side note, Kaoru is a bit self-conscious about her thighs. Always has been, always will be. Yes, she finds them fat, regardless of whether they actually are or not. Usually Kaoru forgets about her thighs, but they’re kinda hard to forget when you’re going to be stuck in a strange world in a damn miniskirt. Not that she entirely hates her mini-skirt, but it can be quite inconvenient at times. Sure, it's fantastic for leg movement, especially when you're running from a big, bad Digimon, but it often makes Kaoru paranoid whether her underwear is flashing itself to the world or not.
OKAY, WHY DON'T YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR FABULOUS SELF?
First and foremost, Kaoru is quite a bookworm. She has been ever since she was able to read. She likes nothing better than to curl up somewhere warm and read a good book. However, unlike most other bookworms, Kaoru prefers to read non-fiction over fiction, and undoubtedly learns more from reading than she ever has at school. She is quite knowledgeable on varying and random topics, which meant that she came off as weird in the eyes of the other schoolkids; raise your hand if you want to hear about what toothpaste is really made out of!
Unfortunately, herobsessionhobby has encouraged little social interaction as a child. Kaoru was always the quiet kid in class that never talked, and when she did talk to you, you were clearly on a different wavelength to her. To feel as though she can talk to someone, Kaoru has to have something obvious in common with the person or finds them easy to relate to, and then the conversation has to build itself well from there. When it goes fine – great! – Kaoru is a friendly and considerate person who wouldn't mind being friends with you (having human friends in the Digital World seems like a good idea). Unfortunately, if she can’t manage to talk to someone, she often ignores the person instead, deeming them uninteresting, and only talks to them if she has to. Luckily, she finds other Digidestined easy to relate to, especially the fellow second generation ones. But, be warned, as soon as you give her the slightest reason for her to not talk to you, she’ll ignore you straight away. She'd like to get through this long "ordeal" interacting with as little people as she can.
Kaoru can also be quite distracted person, which is what causes her to run late most of the time, but can remain focused when something interests her. Despite being in the Digital World since the age of eleven, Kaoru is still feels as though she has to be dependant on something, in replacement of her books - and guess who gets that role? Ebonwumon, since he's the one that knows how to send her back home!
Kaoru can be quite selfcentred. Apart from her darling brothers, she’s never had to think of anyone other than herself, and even when it comes to her brothers she kind of fails at being a caring sister. However, her biggest flaw is that, as a child, she was too reliant on books, as they provide her a source of entertainment, distraction and comfort. Things that she doesn’t have in the Digital World, as she has no books with her. This has lead her to become more bored, emotional and, overall, incredibly uncomfortable. She would do nearly anything for a bookor a libraryand desperately wants to return back home to the human world – which is why she has sided with Ebonwumon. Apparently he knows how to get her, and the other humans, home.
INTERESTING. AND WHAT ABOUT YOUR FAMILY LIFE?
Kaoru is the middle of an ex-Digidestined’s three children, and also the only daughter. Immediately, her gender singled her out from her brothers. She was never really close to them (C’mon, they were boys – how was she supposed to get along with boys?) and instead spent most of her childhood reading as much non-fiction as she could get her hands on. Being an incredible bookworm, Kaoru spent nearly every waking moment with her nose in a book, which discouraged interaction with her childhood peers. Kaoru has never had a best friend before, or even a good friend. There would be people who she would get along with, occasionally, but that was about it. She felt no real need to have friends, like her peers did.
Family life was… well, Kaoru didn’t really notice it much, due to hardly looking beyond her books. All she knows is that she had a father, a mother and two brothers. Her father worked and her mother was a housewife until her younger brother started to attend kindergarten, enabling her mother to have free time to get a job. Kaoru is unaware that her father is an ex-Digidestined, she’s just aware that she’s inherited his shortness.
Kaoru had quite an uneventful childhood, as she buried herself in books for as much of it as she could. And then, when she was eleven, her world was suddenly pulled out from under her and she was dropped into a completely different one! Without any books! She’d admit it, if you asked, that she had a bit of a panic attack upon entering the Digital World, solely because she didn’t have her books with her. She struggled a bit for the first few years, and still struggles a little bit. After all she has always wanted to return to the human world, and hasn't quite yet accepted her being in the Digital World.
Upon seeing Digimon for the first time, Kaoru freaked out. In fact, she still feels a bit uneasy around them, especially the bigger, meaner looking ones, especially as they seem to enjoy tormenting her and chasing her around. The only Digimon she has actually warmed up to is her partner(s), mostly because it helped her escape a nasty, ugly looking Digimon when Kaoru had first arrived. Unfortunately, her partner’s hiding place wasn’t very effective and it quickly became clear that the only way to escape was through conflict. Kaoru still finds fighting barbaric, although she understands now that it is needed. Her partner, on the other hand, was thrilled to fight, as long as Kaoru was out of harm’s way. And when you have a Digimon behave protectively towards you like that, of course you’re going to eventually warm up to it!
However, if there’s one thing in the Digital World that has captured Kaoru’s attention above all else, it’s the devices she and the other Digidestined carry with them. If Kaoru had the right toosl, she would take it apart and examine it, since she read a few books on electronics when she was ten but, more importantly, it looks like it would be a fun thing to tinker with. She wouldn't dare tinker with her own one though, as she might accidentally break it. She doubts that someone else would let her attempt to take apart theirs either.
As time passed in the Digital World, Kaoru singled out Ebonwumon as the one Digimon - the one being, even - who can get her home, and upon learning that, she allied herself with him immediately. She has no real care for the war that’s going on, believing that she’ll be leaving the Digital World soon.

ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE
A young Kaoru tried to ignore the knock on her bedroom door the second time it happened, but after the knock, her mother came in to tell her that she was going to be late for the bus. “But I’ve nearly finished my chapter!” Kaoru protested, as always, but her mother was never convinced. After all, Kaoru was still dressed in her pyjamas and needed to get a move on. At the threat of her books being taken away from her, Kaoru finally book-marked her page near the end of the chapter on the Tasmanian Tiger, and made a point of taking her time getting dressed in the first things she pulled out from her wardrobe. A dark green dress and a bright yellow jacket that was worthy of a cartoon fireman. Kaoru had no idea that she looked a bit ridiculous, and headed out the door.
She had to run to the bus, but was used to it by now. It was always time to catch the bus when she had almost finished a chapter – never when she had actually finished a chapter! Kaoru found herself an empty seat near the front of the bus, and pulled her book out of her bag. Back to reading about Tasmanian Tigers…
“Morning Kaoru!” Kaoru scrunched up her a face a little bit in annoyance. Every single time she wanted to finish a chapter, someone or something had to interrupt her. Looking up, she saw it was one of her classmates, Mika. Kaoru usually got along with Mika, because Mika read books too, although she never dared to touch non-fiction material as they were apparently “very boring”.
“Good morning Mika,” Kaoru responded politely, but didn’t turn back to her book. She knew better than to do that. Mika liked to talk. A lot. And it was usually hard to ignore her when she got like that. Mika was one of those people who made sure that you were actually listening to her.
“Have you decided on what after-school club you’re going to join?” It may have been a question, but Mika quickly forgot that, and started to talk about herself. “I want to join the Art club since it looks nice, but everyone in my family wants me to play a sport. Like Soccer or Baseball. I guess they look fun, don’t you think? My mum also said that she’d be happy if I picked a more traditional activity. Did your mum tell you that too, Kaoru?”
“Um, no.”
“Really? I wonder what kind of club…”
Kaoru never got a chance to tell Mika that she wasn’t planning on joining any after-school clubs, since they would cut into her precious reading time. Mika, as always, had done most of the talking, while Kaoru made the occasional sound to show that she was listening. She didn’t feel like talking, but Kaoru liked to think that Mika knew that and was doing all the talking for the both of them. When the bus stopped at their school, Kaoru and Mika got off. Mika immediately went off to class, but Kaoru turned back and looked back at the bus. She wished that the bus never ended, and that it was always empty. That way she read forever, while riding the bus, and never be interrupted…
